The van Hemmens arrived in the United States on July 1, 1976 and settled in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The family moved to 132 Trafford Street in Shrewsbury, but no longer live there.

Henk and Rik van Hemmen bought F.A. Martin & Ottaway in 1993 and moved it from New York City to Red Bank, NJ in 1995 and then to Tinton Falls, NJ.
